This is an unvalidated heuristic, not an equipment safety check. It does not account for casing, rim construction, load distribution, speed or hookless compatibility.

Check both tyre and rim minimum / maximum pressures and compatibility before inflating. A calculator result never overrides them.

Once within those limits, test small changes in a controlled setting. Bottoming out, tyre squirm or loss of control mean you should stop and reassess the setup.

These are not mountain-bike, cargo-bike or fat-bike recommendations. For high loads or unusual setups, use equipment-specific guidance.

What changes the estimate?

The model raises pressure with combined rider and bike weight, lowers it with measured tyre width and rougher surfaces, and makes a small adjustment for tube setup. Front pressure is 92% of the rear estimate.

Actual weight distribution, casing stiffness, rim width and riding speed may change the right setup materially. Use this as a rough comparison, not an optimisation guarantee.

The formula is deliberately visible

Rear PSI before rounding = [(rider + bike weight in kg) × 0.73 − (tyre width in mm − 28) × 2.4] × surface factor + setup adjustment.

Surface factors are 1.00, 0.94 and 0.88. Setup adjustments are −1 PSI for tubeless, 0 for TPU/latex and +2 for butyl. Results outside the model range are withheld rather than treated as valid recommendations.
